Slick's Story
Excerpt from Chapter 12 page 62
Slick is a 17 year old Quarter and Appaloosa gelding that stands 15.3 hands tall. He is black with a white star and he is named ‘Slick’ because is he just so slick looking!
Slick had a problem with his eye and was diagnosed with Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU) or ‘moon blindness’ which Appaloosas are thought to be more prone to than other breeds. It is the most common cause of blindness in horses. It is a chronic and painful auto-immune eye disease.
His owner bought in a special mask ordered from Texas which Slick wore year round to provide 95% UV protection. It also provided protection from the wind and the cold.
For 5 years he was administered steroid eye drops and a formula of anti-inflammatory eye drops for the pain. Unfortunately his eye was still cloudy and hazy. The owner was told there was nothing could be done.
One day, after running out of the prescription eye drops, the owner decided to use Silver Guard. She dropped it directly it into his affected eye twice daily for 2 weeks. Of course the infection cleared up with the Silver Guard! The infection was not only completely eradicated but it has not returned. The Silver Guard is also not needed for maintenance. The eye is no longer cloudy or hazy. The mask is not needed. Slick did not become blind!
Needless to say, Slick’s owner is very happy!
